Internships and Externships

We offer fall, spring and summer internship and externship opportunities, including for academic credit, for community college, undergraduate and law students with many of our Rural Justice Center office and satellite locations and specialized programs.

How to Apply for Internships at CRLA

Apply by emailing your resume and a cover letter describing your interest in CRLA and preferred Rural Justice Center location(s) and/or programs to probonosupport@crla.org by the following deadlines:    

Fall Semester Internship

  • Application Opens: June 1st
  • Application Closes: August 15
  • Internship Duration: September - December

Spring Semester Internship

  • Application Opens: October 1st
  • Application Closes: December 15
  • Internship Duration: January - May

Community College/Undergraduate Summer Internship

  • Application Opens: December 1st 
  • Application Closes: March 15    
  • Internship Duration: June - August

Law Student Summer Internship   

  • Application Opens: September 1st    
  • Application Closes: March 1st
  • Internship Duration: 10 weeks from early June to early August

Please note: for law student summer internships, we also recruit at the following public interest job fairs as well as at select on-campus interview programs: 

  • Equal Justice Works Career Fair
  • Northern CA Public Interest & Public Sector Legal Careers Day (PIPS Day)
  • Southern CA Public Interest Sector Career Day
  • NYU Public Interest Legal Career Fair

We offer a limited number of paid law student summer internships and encourage students to seek stipends from their schools when available.
