California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA) is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website, as well as the privacy of our clients, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. This privacy policy explains the information we collect through our website (https://crla.org/) and how it is used and safeguarded. By using our services or this website you agree to this policy.

We do not sell or rent your information under any circumstances. We will not share or make public any personal information gathered through our website without your prior consent except as compelled by law. 

We collect information to serve you and improve our services. Any personal information you provide to CRLA is entirely voluntary and will only be accessible to qualified staff.

CRLA collects personally identifiable information provided by visitors to our website (https://crla.org/). We may combine information collected through means such as cookies or third-party analytics tools with other information maintained by CRLA. 

CRLA’S website uses Google Analytics, a free website analytics service offered by Google that helps us understand how people find and use our website.

Information We Collect That You Provide

  • Name, contact, and/or payment information you submit to process a donation or subscribe to our email updates.
  • Information submitted through the “Contact Us” or other contact forms on our website. 

Please note that information shared via any general website form is not protected by attorney-client privilege. 

Automatically Collected Information

Our web server and analytics partners collect information through cookies and similar technology. This information includes:

  • type of device used to visit our website
  • operating system 
  • browser
  • access domain
  • IP address
  • pages visited
  • page that referred you to our site and exit pages

When you use a browser or other app on a mobile device to access our website, the following information may also be collected:

  • Your location. “Precise Location” on Android or “Share My Location” on Apple devices lets an app find a user’s location using the GPS of the device as well as cell phone towers and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Hardware on your device. For example, the “Take Pictures or Video” permission allows an app access to the device’s camera.

  • Staff in CRLA field offices and qualified service providers.

  • LinkedIn
  • X (formerly Twitter) 
  • YouTube

We do not sell or rent your information under any circumstances. SMS consent and phone numbers will not be shared with any third parties or affiliates.

If we reorganize or stop serving specific client groups,  we may transfer your personal information to a third party only if and when they agree to protect your personal information according to the terms of this Policy.

How We Protect Your Information

CRLA has implemented generally accepted standards of technology and operational security to protect personally identifiable information from loss, misuse, alteration, or destruction, including SSH (Secure Shell) protocol and SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. 

Only authorized CRLA personnel are provided access to personally identifiable information and these employees have agreed to maintain the confidentiality of this information.

Third Party Links

CRLA may link to other websites that do not operate under CRLA's privacy practices. When you travel to other websites, CRLA's privacy practices no longer apply.  

CRLA utilizes third party services for donation and payment processing. CRLA does not collect or store your credit card or other payment information. Credit card or other payment information is safeguarded by the service provider (e.g. PayPal). 

Additionally, the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement of or affiliation with that website or organization.

Data Retention

The information you submit to us will only be kept as long as needed for the reason it was obtained. Mailing list information is kept until a user unsubscribes or requests that we delete that information.

When we update the privacy policy, we will post a notice on our website at https://crla.org/.
