Meet CRLA’s 2025 Law Student Summer Intern Cohort

These bright and passionate law students spent their summer with us thanks in part to the Jose Padilla Fellowship Fund. Learn about how their time with our community has shaped their professional and individual growth and furthered our collective impact.
Q: What did you gain from your projects with CRLA?
Eric: “I think one of the most memorable moments of my internship is getting to sit in on intakes. Doing this has provided valuable insight into how CRLA interacts with the local community and how CRLA then works to help the community in the best way that they can. “
Gillian: “I worked on a case with a group client and learned so much. I worked on a mediation brief, calculated damages, and even attended the mediation. I learned so much about legal writing, mediation, and legal strategies.”
Kyler: “I have worked on writing a public comment criticizing the State Water Board's latest Dairy Order. I gained experience working with a combination of scientific data and legal theory, to spot flaws in environmental regulation.”
Lilly: “I created a training on California’s eviction process for tenant-side advocates, breaking down legal steps into clear visuals and handouts. It sharpened my skills in translating complex legal concepts into accessible, practical tools.”
Q: What are your plans post-internship?
Rapture: “I'll be starting my 2L year; taking CalCivPro (this internship really re-enforced the need to get on that!) and trying to help my community the way CRLA taught me!”
Keyera: “After my internship I plan to begin my final year of law school at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. I also plan to work as an extern for CRLA for the fall semester!”
Dianara: “My plans post-internship are to return to school, finish my last semester of classes, take the February Bar, and then finish the Spring Semester with pro-bono work as a Pro-Bono Scholar. Post-law school, my plans remain tentative.”
Q: Fill in the blank: "I will miss ________ the most."
Nikhil: “I will miss going to Pride outreach events the most! These were great ways to interact with community members and to explain the services that CRLA offers and how we may be able to help.”
Samir: “I will miss my team the most! They have been so welcoming and have taught me so much.”
Ernie: “I will miss the amazing and passionate people at CRLA the most.”
Araceli: “I will miss learning about the practical aspects of practicing law the most.”
